Many long-time fans of Neil Diamond still remember when his 1976 album, A Beautiful Noise, first dropped. Hit Broadway musical honoring Neil Diamond, is now coming to to Pittsburgh for several premiers at the legendary Benedum Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this fall.
The exciting performance delighted audiences from the very beginning with a mesmerizing Broadway show and catchy songs. The tale follows the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, opening in the present day with Westenberg sitting in a therapist’s office. As Diamond, he explains how he can no longer make music like he used to while the doctor helps him navigate the trials brought by this reality throughout A Beautiful Noise. The production goes back to Diamond's childhood days, examining his introduction to music and all memorable moments since then, including his journey to stardom and battle with depression. But, what die-hard fans anticipate most is re-experiencing Diamond’s catalog of songs in the Neil Diamond Musical.
This magical two-hour-and-15-minute adventure comprises two acts, the first ending with the beautiful song Sweet Caroline, followed by a 15-minute intermission. After restocking on refreshments, rejoin the show for another hour of outstanding acting and storytelling.

A Beautiful Noise showcases a team of creative performers, notably under the direction of Michael Mayer and choreography by Award winner Steven Hoggett. The performing side, on the other hand, offers the talented talents of dozens of singers and actors. On the forefront are Will Swenson and Mark Jacoby, who play a young and aging Neil, respectively. Will, in particular, is often praised for his unmatched energy and magnetism that seems to be borrowed straight from Neil Diamond in his prime. Adding to the amazing cast, Robyn Hurder will be playing as Marcia Murphey and Linda Powell is cast as Neil’s therapist.
Together, the actors portrays an intimate recollection of the superstar’s life, from his modest Brooklyn days to his passionate chart-topping years. This fall show doesn’t evade the ugly and uncomfortable, but pays respects to the hardships that formed Neil to who he is today. The master artist himself collaborated with the production to ensure that everything is laid bare, “warts and all”, for people to comprehend the person behind the superstar.
