The Broadway show, written by the critically acclaimed Anthony McCarten, was produced by Robert Gaudio and the award-winning Ken Davenport. With help from more than 6 decades of Diamond’s music, the team created a “musical collage” with songs that take on "lives of their own”, as McCarten said during an interview with The Boston Globe. 

This magnificent 2 hour 15 minute tale comprises two acts. The first act ends with the beautiful song Sweet Caroline, followed by a 15 min intermission. After restocking on refreshments, rejoin the show for another hour of award-winning performances.

The Production

Many lifelong fans of Neil Diamond still remember when his 1976 album, A Beautiful Noise, was first released. Those same fans will never forget seeing the musical of the same name it came to Pittsburgh. The jukebox musical fascinated audiences from the very beginning with a mesmerizing Broadway show and uplifting songs. 

The musical soon ended up on NYC Broadway, running from late 2022 into early 2024 at the Broadhurst Theatre. Talents like Will Swenson (playing Neil Diamond), Mark Jacoby (present-day Diamond), and Linda Powell (The Doctor) reprised their roles after the Boston production. 

The musical swiftly spread its reach. With a fresh new cast, including the American Idol winner, Nick Fradiani. Fradiani announced he would play the role of the young Neil Diamond. 

The Story

The production follows the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, starting in the present dayreminiscing from a therapist’s office. Neil Diamond talks about how he can no longer perform like he used, as the therapist helps him navigate the trials brought by this reality throughout A Beautiful Noise. 

The production goes all the way back to Diamond's Brooklyn childhood, discussing his introduction to music and all memorable moments since then, including his journey to stardom and fight with depression. But, what long-time Diamond lovers anticipate most is re-experiencing Diamond’s catalog of songs in the Neil Diamond Musical.

Awards & Reviews

While the Broadway show was nominated for Outstanding Production of a Musical and Outstanding New Broadway Musical by Outer Critics Circle Awards, the actors took home the gold. Hoggett, Hurder, and LeProtto won Outstanding Ensemble in a Broadway Show for their dance routines. Other nominations include the Drama Desk Award and Drama League Awards.
