Many lifelong fans of Neil Diamond still remember when his 1976 album, A Beautiful Noise, first was released. Hit Broadway musical honoring Neil Diamond, is now coming to to Pittsburgh for several shows at the iconic Benedum Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this fall.
The jukebox musical entranced audiences from the very beginning with a engaging story and memorable songs. The production follows the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, starting in the present day with Westenberg inside in a therapist’s office. As Diamond, he details how he can no longer perform like he used to while the doctor helps him cope with that realization throughout A Beautiful Noise. The production goes back to Diamond's childhood days, discussing his introduction to music and all the good and bad times since then, including his ascension to stardom and battle with depression. But, what long-time Diamond lovers anticipate most is re-experiencing Diamond’s catalog of songs in the Neil Diamond Musical.
This magnificent two-hour-and-15-minute adventure comprises two acts, the first ending with the timeless classic Sweet Caroline, followed by a 15-minute intermission. After restocking on refreshments, rejoin the show for another hour of award-winning performances.

A Beautiful Noise showcases a team of creative performers, notably under the direction of Michael Mayer and choreography by Chita Rivera Award winner Steven Hoggett. The performing side, on the other hand, offers the skilled talents of dozens of singers and actors. On the forefront are Will Swenson and Mark Jacoby, who play a young and aging Neil, respectively. Swenson, in particular, is often lauded for his unrivaled energy and magnetism that seems to be borrowed straight from Neil Diamond in his prime. Adding to the amazing cast, Robyn Hurder will be playing as Marcia Murphey and Linda Powell is cast as Neil’s therapist.
Together, the actors portrays an intimate recollection of the superstar’s history, from his wiry Brooklyn days to his feverish chart-topping years. This fall show doesn’t avoid the ugly and uncomfortable, but pays respects to the hardships that shaped Neil to who he is today. The master artist himself collaborated with the production to ensure that everything is laid bare, “warts and all”, for people to understand the person behind the superstar.
