Synopsis

Set in 1922 New York, the tale follows Midwesterner Nick Carraway moving into a humble cottage next to the extravagant millionaire Jay Gatsby. Amazed by Gatsby's extravagant lifestyle and mysterious persona, Nick uncovers Gatsby's obsessive quest to reunite with his former love, Daisy Buchanan. As secrets unravel, including affairs, deceptions and devastating confrontations - the story takes a turn into unrealistic dreams amid societal pressures. Via soaring songs like "Roaring On," the musical crafts a story of passion, deception and unavoidable demise.

Creative Team

This outstanding show is put together by a talented team led by Ryan McCartan as the charismatic Jay Gatsby, Aisha Jackson as the dreamy Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as narrator Nick Carraway, Samantha Pauly as the clever Jordan Baker, Austin Colby as the domineering Tom Buchanan, and Eric Anderson as the cunning Meyer Wolfsheim. Directed by Marc Bruni, with dynamic movement by Dominique Kelley and an unique score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 classic, "The Great Gatsby" premiered at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 prior to making its Broadway debut in April 2024 at the Broadway Theatre. It won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, honoring its opulent 1920s aesthetics.
