Hell's Kitchen began development in 2011, inspired by Alicia Keys' own journey. It premiered Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2023 to widespread praise, extending its run before moving to Broadway in 2024, with previews starting March 28 and an official opening on April 20. The show earned 13 Tony Award nominations in 2024, securing Best Actress in a Leading Role for Maleah Joi Moon and Best Featured Actress for Kecia Lewis. In 2025, it won the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.
